Pride Vermont Calls on Artists and Activists to Resistance Through Art at the 2026 Parade & Festival

BURLINGTON, VT - Pride Vermont has announced a community-wide call to action inviting artists, activists, and allies to turn visual art into political action during the upcoming Pride Parade & Festival on Sunday, September 13, 2026, in Burlington.

The initiative comes at a critical time for 2STLGBQIA+ individuals nationwide. As legislative rollbacks, public censorship, and systemic erasure threaten bodily autonomy, healthcare access, and basic civil rights, Pride Vermont is mobilizing the community to use creative self-expression as an undeniable tool of visibility and resistance.

"We are living through a high-stakes moment where queer, trans, and non-binary existence is actively targeted," said Pride Vermont organizers. "In a political climate designed to exhaust us, force us back into hiding, or dilute our history, staying passive isn't an option. Visual art translates complex political rage and deep love into something tangible. We want our community to show us their voice—to tell us what they are fighting for, dreaming for, and defending."

Drawing inspiration from legendary lineage like ACT UP’s 1980s Silence=Death movement to modern street installations, screenprints, zines, and DIY posters, marchers and attendees are encouraged to bring custom signs, wearable art, and visual displays directly to the parade route down Church Street.

Event & Visual Art Contest Details:

  • Pride Parade & March: Sunday, September 13, 2026 | Church Street, Burlington, VT
  • Contest Registration: Participants must register their visual art entries at the Festival Info Tent by 1:30 PM on September 13.
  • Awards & Recognition: Judges' choices and crowd favorites will be announced live on the main festival stage, featuring prizes for top entries.

Community members, local organizations, and artists interested in participating, reviewing guidelines, or learning more about the event can visit pridevt.org.
